Cats

This book, despite its odd title, is the record of my own personal spiritual journey. It seems relevant to the “Help Us Heal America” project, because it was while I was on this journey that I felt led to the calling of mediation and peace-making.  This book tells that story.
And yes, there is a cat involved.

5.0 out of 5 stars “This book is a gift–LOVED it!”
By Stephanie Chandler, April 6, 2007
“I thoroughly enjoyed this gem of a book by David Evans. If you have ever owned a cat (or had a cat that owned you), you will certainly relate to the joys and gifts that they bring to life. It is also delightful to learn about someone else’s connection between cats and God–something I have long believed. This book moved me to tears and had me laughing out loud. I am also ordering several copies for family and friends (I’m keeping mine for future re-reading!).

“A Book to Lift Your Spirits”
By Rod Harrington, May 11, 2007
“This book is a real treat! But what kind of book is it, anyway? A book about hearing the voice of God? A book about God speaking out through the mouths of animals?
Actually, it’s a book depicting the gradual spiritual growth of a man. It’s a spiritual biography of David Evans, with a particular focus on how God spoke to his heart by means of a stray cat.
As I read the book, I came to really like the author. He seemed like my kind of guy. He’s had his ups: he’s been a freelance writer for some famous TV shows. And he’s had his downs: he’s been fired from jobs–more than once, actually.
But one thing kept him going: he recognized that God was at work in his life.
It’s a well-written book, easy to read, filled with stories. At a bit under 100 pages, it’s just long enough to finish in a couple of reads. It left me smiling, happy, and peaceful.
If you’re looking for a book to lift your spirits and encourage you in life, you’ve got it right here

5.0 out of 5 stars, “Surprisingly Delightful, Worthwhile Read”
ByLinore Rose Burkard, also writing as L.R.Burkardon,  May 9, 2007
“The title may give you pause, but don’t let it put you off. At the very least, every cat lover should read this book. It is a warm honest tale of the process of growing and stretching of the human spirit, of the fact that possibilities truly are around us that we often never see or know of; that life is definitely bigger than we thought, more fulfilling than we expected, and that God is subtly (or, not so subtly!) at work gently nudging us toward these truths. And yes, He has the sense of humor and understanding to mold us using anything at His disposal which may just include–your CAT! Other names for this book inevitably come to mind: “God’s Sense of Humor and My Life” or, “Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Cat!” (just kidding). Whether you are an animal lover or not, this heart-felt account of one man’s surprising journey of faith and love will delight and move you. I highly recommend it.”

ByDebra Brubakeron May 4, 2007
“Yes, and through David Evans as well. I was immediately drawn into and captivated by this light hearted yet compelling story about Davids’ discovery of his love for cats. Anyone who loves cats as well as those who think they don’t should read this. I found it to be wise, warm and wonderful reading.”

4.0 out of 5 stars”Does God Ever Speak through Cats?”
ByH. Smithon May 1, 2007
“David Evans’s inspirational autobiography links the adoption of an unusual cat with a personal, religious conversion. Mr. Evans’s reflections add a nice touch. The tone is light, humorous and loving. A must read for those who love cats and see God in every creature.”

5.0 out of 5 stars”Let God”
By Ruth Lawleron April 28, 2007
“Pick a couple of hours when you’re not likely to have interruptions. I did, and I found this book relaxing, instructive and faith building. David Evans shares his life, successes, failures, joys and no excuses. The advice God gave him is “Work It Out” and this book explains how he did. On the journey he discovered his personal ministry, and the truth that God has many surprises for each of us, surprises that delight and satisfy us. What God asks from us is faith and trust so that He may show us how best to serve.”

5.0 out of 5 stars “Stories of Love and Faith”
ByRichard R. Blake VINE VOICEon April 21, 2007
“David Evans in his book “Does God Ever Speak through Cats?” tells of his journey in finding new life, a new career, and a surprising new love for cats. David draws from his experience as television script writer to relate this profound parable of a growing love and faith through an unexpected bonding with two cats. Mehitabel taught him love, and through Minnie he learned faith.
Without being “preachy” David shares a testimony of a growing faith and how it was impacted by lessons learned through his relationship with his two cat friends.
As I read David’s book I found myself comparing my own experiences with the cats we have owned over the years. Today I am looking a little closer at our Monique. She has become a “gift” to us in filling a void in our empty nest years.
This is a book for every cat lover and owner. It makes an excellent gift book. It is a book to read aloud with your loved ones while your cat nestles into your lap to provide a purring hum for background effects. A good read!”
